A $171,314 embezzlement award and a conversion award in the amount of $191,000 were both included in the verdict against Dr Steven Ghim, a former partner in the dental practice. Instead of depositing patient payments into the business account of the dental practice with which he was formerly affiliated, Dr Ghim had been taking payments from patients and depositing them into his own personal banking accounts.

Additionally, the jury decided to award punitive damages in the amount of $500,000, which “sends a pretty strong message to someone who wants to do this,” according to Monroe, the solicitor for the dental practise, who spoke with The Charlotte Observer.
