A Closer Look at Sec’s Proposed Revision to Privacy Act Rule

Cicely LaMothe has been named Deputy Director, Disclosure Operations, for the Division of Corporation Finance, starting February 12, 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced today. Since August 2022, Ms LaMothe has held the position of acting deputy director for disclosure operations.

Gary Gensler, the chair of the SEC, stated of Cicely, “She has held a variety of leadership roles within the Division of Corporation Finance, and I am pleased that she will continue her work as Deputy Director for Disclosure Operations.” “I am looking forward to working with Cicely and her colleagues across the division to help ensure that investors get the full, fair, and truthful disclosures they need to make informed investment decisions.”


Erik Gerding, Director of the Division of Corporation Finance, declared, “I am overjoyed to announce that Cicely will serve as Deputy Director for Disclosure Operations. She has had a lengthy career in the division and has established herself as a leader and an accountant, receiving the utmost respect from both parties. She exemplifies what the Commission means by public service in terms of talent, involvement, and dedication to both our purpose and our people.


I have worked with incredibly talented and committed professionals in the Division of Corporation Finance for more than 20 years,” stated Ms LaMothe. Assuming this new leadership position, I am humbled and honoured by the chance to carry on the division’s important work in support of the SEC‘s mission with the assistance and knowledge of my colleagues.


Since she joined the Commission in 2002, Ms LaMothe has served in a number of senior leadership positions within the Division of Corporation Finance, including Program Director of the Disclosure Review Program, Associate Director of the Office of Assessment and Continuous Improvement, and Associate Director of Disclosure Operations. Ms LaMothe earned the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 2020 in honour of her work supporting the Commission’s diversity and inclusion initiatives through the SEC Diversity Council.

Ms LaMothe spent six years in the private sector prior to joining the SEC, including positions as a senior associate at a Big Four accounting firm and financial reporting manager for a publicly traded corporation. Ms LaMothe is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hampton University.
